Description

PIBS Student Outreach Representatives are current graduate students at the University of Michigan who have a strong interest in recruiting future PhD students to the Program in Biomedical Sciences (PIBS). Eligible applicants must be a current PhD student in good standing with candidate status and must have matriculated into their PhD program through PIBS. Those directly admitted to their PhD program are not eligible.

PIBS Student Outreach Representatives interact with current undergraduate students and other prospective PhD applicants in a number of ways:

Accompany a member of the Recruiting/Admissions Staff on recruitment trips to partnership institutions as well as regional and national recruitment eventsIndependently host informational talks with partner programs (MARC, RISE, PREP, etc.) at their alma mater or other partner institutionsLead social event planning during our annual PIBS Preview Recruitment Event

The time commitment expected largely spans August through November of the given year. Those selected for the position can expect to make 1-2 trips with a staff representative in addition to independently leading 2-3 information sessions virtually or in person.

Recruitment materials, visuals, optional presentation script, and a comprehensive training will be provided. However, PIBS Outreach Representatives are not expected to be institutional or administrative experts, but are largely expected to speak from their own experience and knowledge-base. In recognition of their efforts and contributions, PIBS Outreach Representatives are provided the following from OGPS:

Registration, travel, lodging and per-diem for any trip made in the service of the position, including the annual ABRCMS conference, provided that the previously mentioned expenses are not already being funded by the Representative's home department/lab or an institutional travel grant. UM Apparel and other SWAG for recruitment engagements$50 Monthly stipend paid from August-December ($250 total)

OGPS expects that any applicant will discuss the opportunity with their mentor before submitting their application. Applicants should also confirm that the terms of their current funding do not prohibit them from collecting the supplemental stipend described above before the first disbursement in August.

Any questions or concerns can be sent to pcshrade@umich.edu
