About the Role
PIBS Student Outreach Representatives are current University of Michigan PhD students who are passionate about engaging with prospective scientists and promoting the Program in Biomedical Sciences (PIBS). Representatives support recruitment efforts by connecting with undergraduate students, partner programs, and prospective applicants throughout the admissions cycle.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
Be a current PhD student at the University of Michigan.
Be in good academic standing with candidate status.
Have matriculated into their PhD program through the PIBS umbrella.
Not eligible: Students who were directly admitted into their PhD program.
Position Responsibilities
As a PIBS Student Outreach Representative, you will:
Engage with Prospective Students
Participate in on‑campus recruitment and admissions events.
Accompany an OGPS Recruiting/Admissions staff member on regional and national recruitment trips.
Independently host virtual or in‑person informational talks with partner programs such as MARC, RISE, PREP, and others—either at your alma mater or at other partner institutions.
Support PIBS Recruitment Events
Lead elements of social event planning during the annual PIBS Preview Recruitment Event.
Time Commitment:
Primary engagement runs July 2026 through January 2027.
Expect 2 to 3 in-person trips with staff plus 4 to 5 independent outreach sessions (typically virtual).
Training & Provided Materials
OGPS will supply:
Recruitment materials, visuals, and presentation resources
Optional presentation scripts
A comprehensive training session to prepare you for outreach activities
Representatives are not expected to be administrative experts—your most valuable contribution is your personal experience and insight as a PIBS trainee.
Compensation & Benefits
PIBS Student Outreach Representatives receive:
Travel support: registration, transportation, lodging, and per diem for all position‑related travel—including ABRCMS 2026—unless these expenses are already covered by your department, lab, or a travel grant.
UM apparel and recruitment SWAG for outreach events.
$50 monthly stipend from July 2026 through January 2027 (total $350).
